How to Knit Lesson Two - Fingerless Mittens

Materials needed:  Two skeins (one each coordinating colors) of very soft, natural yarn in medium weight. (Sample was knit in Fonty Aubusson merino wool in colors 18 and 9. 50g and 80m each.)  Bamboo needles in size 5mm (US 8 or UK 6)  Scissors  A darning needle  Tape measure Pattern: Cast on 30 stitches in color A. Rows 1 -- 3, knit all stitches Row 4, purl all stitches Row 5, knit all stitches Row 6, purl all stitches Rows 7 -- 32, repeat rows 5 & 6, alternating knit and purl rows, ending with a purled row Change yarn to color B Row 33, knit all stitches Row 34, *k1, p1*, repeat * to end of row Rows 35 -- 42, repeat row 34 Change yarn to color A Cast off rib-wise Seam top (by fingers) down 2 inches or 5 cm Seam bottom (at cuff) up 3 ¼ inches or 8 cm Darn in ends. © 2014 Lucinda Segneri
