13-year-old Yu Zidi just swam the 400m individual medley in 4:28.56 at the Asian Games in Tokyo, only 0.13 seconds off Ye Shiwen's legendary 2012 world record time. She also swam the second fastest 200 IM in history and swept three individual golds.
But the real question isn't how fast she is at 13. London 2012 gave us two teenage Olympic champions: Katie Ledecky, who is still breaking world records at 28, and Ye Shiwen, who never returned to an Olympic podium. Which path is Yu Zidi on?
In this video: her water park discovery, the missed Olympic standard at 11, the brutal 400 IM, the Ledecky test, and what Budapest and LA 2028 could mean.
💬 Tell me in the comments: next Ledecky or next Ye Shiwen?
