That raises questions about reserve days, scheduling flexibility and whether better alternative arrangements should have existed for knockout matches where medals are at stake. My concern is simple: rankings are useful for seeding teams, but should they effectively decide who survives a knockout round without any cricket being played? If rankings ultimately determine advancement whenever rain intervenes, smaller cricket nations lose exactly the thing tournaments like the Asian Games should offer them — an opportunity to compete against stronger teams, create an upset, gain exposure and prove themselves on the field. India and Pakistan could still meet for the gold medal if both win their semi-finals, but before that happens, the way they reached the final four deserves scrutiny.
