In this video I establish what I believe is the World Record for the number of turns spent to beat map The Other Side, which is an scenario of the standard mode of the original Heroes of Might and Magic II. I beat it in only 5 turns, achieving a score of 308 points and the rating of Black Dragon.
In order to set the record, you need to comply with the following requirements and strategy:
Choose the difficulty level "Impossible".
Choose the Wizard hero, because the Necromancer doesn't start with any flying or range attack units, so he'd take terrible loses if he tries to pass through the central area in the first turns.
Make sure your starting hero and the first Wizard available for hiring don't have only halflings and no boars.
Make sure your Mage Guild has some destructive spells (magic arrow, cold ray, lightning bolt).
Get enough experience (1000 XP) to level up in the first chest you find, and then get the choice of basic Logistics when you level up. Otherwise you won't probably have enough movement points to reach the enemy castle in time.
For the rest of the chests you find, always choose the gold, as you will need it to buy more heroes and troops.
Create a supply chain of heroes that carry more troops to the main hero. It's no problem if the new heroes are not wizards, as you'll have to fill all the ranks. However, avoid the necromancer and knight troops (the undead make you lose a lot of morale, and the peasants and archers are just not good enough).
The two stacks of creatures in the southern central area shouldn't be flying creatures or ranged attack creatures (unless they are willing to join you or they flee).
Find the enemy hero in the southern area or nearby his castle, so you don't need to spend extra days in finishing him off.
Don't waste your movement points, and in case of need, dismiss the slowest units of your army, so your hero has more movement points in the next turns.
Disclaimer: I often find speedruns based on the number of turns for the campaing mode and speedruns based on the amount of time played for both the campaign mode and the standard mode. However, I hardly ever find speedruns based on the number of turns for the standard mode. So...
