Europe is looking for new ways to return people who have no legal right to remain in the bloc. Germany, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands and Greece are exploring the possibility of transferring rejected asylum seekers and other migrants to return centers in Rwanda, with the scheme intended to start in 2027. The proposal differs from the former UK-Rwanda plan, which sought to relocate asylum seekers to Rwanda where their claims could be processed. The new initiative focuses on people whose asylum claims have been rejected or who have no right to remain in the EU.#DWAfricaSocialMedia#Rwanda#Deportation#europaleague 00:00 Rwanda: Europe’s potential migrant return hub 00:58 Europe’s plans for rejected asylum seekers 01:40 What is Rwanda negotiating with Europe? 03:04 Rwanda’s experience hosting refugees 04:58 How would the return hub system work? 06:52 Is the plan driven by European politics? 08:35 Why are Rwanda and Uganda being considered? 10:28 How are Rwandans reacting to the plans? 13:20 What leverage do African countries have? 15:23 Human rights concerns over deportation deals 17:51 Who could be sent to Rwanda? 19:22 What Rwanda should consider before agreeing 20:56 What could the deal mean for East Africa? 22:16 Can the plan solve Europe’s migration problem? 23:26 What do Rwandans think about the proposal? 24:14 What the deal could mean for Europe, Rwanda and migrants
