Kenya has confirmed a second case of Ebola, raising further questions about the country’s ability to detect infectious diseases and respond to a public health emergency. The first patient travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Uganda before arriving in Nairobi on October 3. He later died from the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. Health officials are tracing contacts and working to prevent further transmission. But how did the first infection go undetected during the patient’s journey? The cases have renewed attention to border screening, hospital preparedness, staffing shortages and coordination between public health authorities.#DWAfricaSocialMedia#DWAfricaLinkPodcast#Kenya#eb 00:00 Kenya’s Ebola preparedness under scrutiny 01:21 How the patient travelled undetected 02:22 From DR Congo to Nairobi: The patient’s journey 04:00 Contact tracing and quarantine measures 05:14 What Kenya’s first Ebola case means 06:30 Public reaction and fears of restrictions 08:05 New screening measures at airports and borders 10:44 Gaps in Kenya’s disease surveillance 12:47 Shortages and weaknesses in the health system 14:30 Are regional border controls working? 16:09 Concerns over healthcare workers’ safety 18:27 Lessons for Kenya’s Ebola response 21:42 How Kenyans are reacting to the case 24:00 Is Kenya prepared to contain Ebola?
