10:00 a.m.: Brian sends his boss an idea. Three paragraphs, two exclamation marks, one very good diagram. 10:02: she replies. "Ok." With a full stop. By 4 p.m., he's looking at lighthouses for sale. If you have ADHD, you might know this: one tiny message, and your whole day is gone. This isn't you being dramatic. There's a reason your brain does it, and there are things that help. In this video: • the alarm: why criticism, or even possible criticism, can hit so hard (rejection sensitivity, often called RSD) • why an ADHD brain does this: years of "try harder", feelings at full volume, and the empty gap in every text • the spiral in slow motion, from 10:02 to 6 p.m. • the other alarms: group chats, voice messages, read receipts, and what to do when the criticism is real • five things that help: name it, find three other explanations, wait, ask instead of guessing, tell your people • for bosses, friends and partners: one extra word can change a whole afternoon • the next-day test: twelve minutes of panic instead of six hours RSD is not an official diagnosis. If this affects your life a lot, talk to a professional. Your mission: tell me in the comments. What's the shortest message that ever ruined your whole day?
