What does it really mean to serve God - and have Christians sometimes replaced one religious checklist with another? In 2 Corinthians 3:6, Paul writes that God has made us ministers “not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” But what does that actually mean for everyday Christian life? It can be easy to recognise the prescriptive nature of Old Testament law while still creating new expectations around what a “real” Christian should look like: speaking in tongues, being baptised in a particular way, holding an official church role, or serving in a formal ministry setting. But is church activity always the same thing as serving God? In this video, we explore the difference between the letter and the Spirit, what it means to serve God beyond formal church roles, and why Christian obedience is not simply about replacing one checklist with another. We also look at Jesus’ teaching through the Good Samaritan and consider whether we can become so focused on designated religious activity that we miss the opportunity to show the love, mercy and character of Christ in front of us. The conversation also considers: 👉 Christian service outside the church building 👉 vocation and calling 👉 faith and works 👉 formal ministry versus everyday service 👉 the heart behind obedience 👉 what it really means to live in a Christ-like way The challenge is not simply to swap one checklist for another but to understand the heart of God and live in a way that reflects Christ. Scriptures discussed: 📌 2 Corinthians 3:6 “the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life” 📌 Luke 10:25–37 the Good Samaritan As always, take what you hear back to Scripture, spend time with God, and seek His guidance for yourself. #ChristianLiving #BibleStudy #HolySpirit #ServingGod #ChristianFaith
