A 5,000-Mile Pineapple Express Is Targeting California: And It’s Just the Beginning A huge atmospheric river, often called a Pineapple Express, is aimed at California. Moisture levels are three to four standard deviations above normal for October. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of excessive rainfall for Los Angeles and the western Transverse Ranges. One county is already under a flood watch, and the Sierra Nevada is in line for its first big snow of the season. In this video, we break down the California storm county by county, from Big Sur and Santa Barbara to Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, using what the National Weather Service, Weather Prediction Center and National Hurricane Center are reporting. You will learn: What a Pineapple Express and an atmospheric river really are Why this storm is not a hurricane, and why that matters How rain rates of up to 2 inches per hour can cause flash floods and debris flows on burn scars Whether the 5,000-mile claim going around online is confirmed Why this first storm of the wet season is a test for the ground If this helped you understand the storm, like the video and subscribe with notifications on for the next weather update. Tell us in the comments which county you are watching. Always follow your local officials and the National Weather Service for alerts. Turn around, don’t drown. #PineappleExpress #AtmosphericRiver #CaliforniaStorm #FloodWatch #LosAngelesWeather #FlashFlood #SierraSnow #ExtremeWeather
