Eden Gardens:
Located in Kolkata, India, Eden Gardens is one of the most famous and historic cricket stadiums in the world. Often referred to as the "Mecca of Indian cricket," it was established in 1864 and is the oldest and one of the largest cricket stadiums in India by capacity. The ground has witnessed many iconic matches, including major international tournaments like the World Cup finals. Beyond the sporting arena, Eden Gardens is also a large public garden featuring a lake, a Burmese pagoda, and various statues, serving as a significant green lung for the city.
Durga Puja:
Durga Puja is a grand, multi-day Hindu festival celebrated primarily by the Bengali community in India, especially in the state of West Bengal. It honors the Goddess Durga and commemorates her victory over the shape-shifting buffalo demon Mahishasura. This triumph symbolizes the eternal victory of good over evil. The festival is characterized by elaborate public temporary structures called "pandals," which house stunning clay idols of the goddess and her children. During these days, the entire region is transformed into a vibrant carnival with massive crowds, traditional music, including the rhythmic beating of dhaak drums, cultural performances, and social gatherings. In recognition of its cultural significance, UNESCO inscribed "Durga Puja in Kolkata" on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2021.
