00 - Hook: Ford spent billions proving an electric F-150 was possible, then pulled the plug.
52 - The promise of the video: the problem, three truck makers, and the one number that shows what buyers want.
44 - The real problem: towing, not price.
07 - The math: 320 miles of range becomes about 160 with a trailer.
46 - Why a bigger battery does not fix it.
12 - Ford ends the Lightning on Dec 15, 2025, with $19.5 billion in charges and the T3 truck canceled.
07 - What an EREV is and how it differs from a regular hybrid (new Lightning: 700+ miles of total range).
24 - What Ford has not told us yet: price, final towing numbers, launch date (2027 expected).
57 - Ram: cancels the all-electric truck and renames the Ramcharger the Ram 1500 REV (145 miles on battery, 690 total, 14,000 lb towing).
15 - Scout Terra, from Volkswagen: electric or "Harvester" generator version, built in South Carolina.
35 - The number: 85% of Scout's 150,000+ reservations are for the generator version (refundable $100 reservations).
12 - The answer to the title question: "partly."
06 - Arguments for and against the EREV, and the lack of independent towing tests.
23 - Ford's two bets: the $28,350 Fathom electric pickup and the Lightning EREV for towing.
49 - What to watch next: new Lightning details, Ram's delivery, Scout production, independent tow tests.
49 - Final call to action: subscribe for part three and answer the question in the comments.
This video (about 14 minutes) is part two of a series on what is happening to electric trucks in America. It argues that what broke the Ford F-150 Lightning was not only price, but towing: with a heavy trailer, range can drop by half or more, and a bigger battery would make the truck heavier and more expensive. In December 2025, Ford ended production of the all-electric Lightning, and the name returns as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), where electric motors drive the wheels and a gas engine only generates power. Ram and Scout are taking the same path. The key number is that about 85% of Scout's reservations are for the version with the gas generator. The conclusion is that engineers solved the problem "partly": they did not invent a better battery, they changed the question. Independent towing tests are still missing.
