The BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme Crashes during high-speed testing, leaving the nearly 3,000-horsepower electric hypercar severely damaged. Shocking footage shows the aftermath as Yangwang prepares for another attempt to break the 500 kilometers per hour speed barrier.
The Yangwang U9 Xtreme, also known as the U9X, previously achieved an incredible top speed of 496.22 kilometers per hour, equivalent to 308.34 miles per hour, during testing in Germany in September 2025. The achievement established a new benchmark for production car performance and demonstrated the extraordinary capabilities of BYD's electric vehicle technology.
However, the journey toward even greater speeds has encountered a serious setback. Footage circulating from China shows a Yangwang U9 Xtreme involved in a violent testing accident, with the vehicle suffering extensive structural damage. Images of the wreckage reveal the severely damaged front section, exposed internal components, and the remains of the carbon fiber bodywork. The driver was reportedly able to escape without injury.
Despite the accident, Yangwang has released a new promotional video highlighting the determination behind its next high-speed challenge. The company is preparing to pursue the 500 kilometers per hour milestone, although the exact circumstances of the crash and the schedule for the next attempt remain unconfirmed.
The BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme features 4 electric motors producing approximately 2,977 horsepower, a 1,200-volt electrical architecture, and advanced DiSus-X intelligent suspension technology.
With the Yangwang U9 Xtreme Crashes footage drawing attention worldwide, the biggest question is whether BYD can overcome this setback and achieve another historic speed record.
