Srijan Pal Singh answers the question every layer of India's air defence is built around: can a nuclear missile actually be stopped? He walks the system from the outside in — satellites and long-range radar catching the launch, tracking that has to establish trajectory, type, speed and count in seconds, and then the layers that engage: S-400 reaching out to around 400 km, Akash as a composite system rather than a single missile, and intelligent anti-aircraft and anti-drone guns at the bottom of the stack for targets too cheap to spend a missile on. The detail he keeps returning to is mobility. The Patriot and THAAD batteries the Americans have placed in the Gulf are static installations, and static radars get found and hit; India's are truck-mounted and move after they fire. He also points to NAVIC — a military-grade indigenous positioning system that keeps working if GPS is switched off. Then the honest part: no country, the United States included, can claim it will intercept a nuclear warhead with certainty, which is exactly why nobody should build policy on the assumption that it can. The last stretch turns to the physics — why a warhead does not simply explode on impact, why a plutonium implosion device needs a beryllium and polonium reflector to work at all, why detonation happens around 500 metres up, and why the thing most likely to trigger a nuclear event is not a decision by a government but a malfunction, a misread, or a device that was never in state hands.
