For most of its 75-year history, ECWA Hospital Egbe has relied on Nigeria's national grid, NEPA, which has been unreliable at best, and completely dark for the final six weeks before the switch. The hospital survived on diesel generators running up to 10 hours a day with fuel hauled in from 100 miles away. Today, thanks to a partnership with I-TEC and the generosity of donors like you, a 504-kilowatt solar field feeds a 350-kwh PowerPak system and charges 21 industrial batteries, producing more electricity than that generator ever could, without a drop of diesel. For the first time ever, power runs uninterrupted around the clock through the operating rooms, ICU, laboratory, X-ray, blood bank, vaccine storage, incubators, and electronic patient records.
