Around 115 of her men were still alive in the oil, and their position was passed on that same morning. Yet the last of them was not pulled from the water until a week later, and only ten came home. Among those lost were George, Frank, Joe, Matt and Al Sullivan of Waterloo, Iowa. This video follows the message from the cruiser Helena's signal lamp to a passing B-17, and what happened to it after that.
