Coniston & Stang End MTB Loop | Grizedale Forest Lake District

A cracking cross-country MTB loop through some of the best riding and scenery around Grizedale Forest, Coniston and Stang End in the Lake District. Starting around Hawkshead, the route heads into Grizedale Forest, mixing forest tracks and trails before dropping towards Coniston. Expect loose rock, rough and broken ground, rocky climbs and some quick descents, particularly once you leave the smoother forest tracks. It’s a proper XC ride rather than a technical enduro route, with a good mixture of surfaces throughout. One of the highlights is simply the scenery. The long descent out of Grizedale towards Coniston gives some fantastic views across the surrounding fells, and the more open sections around Stang End have that classic Lake District feel before the route disappears back into the forest. A really enjoyable loop if you’re looking for a scenic Lake District mountain-bike ride with decent descents, plenty of climbing and enough rough terrain to keep it entertaining without becoming ridiculously technical.
