Episode 25: Solomons Island | Planes, Pasta, Stained Glass & Chesapeake Adventures! Welcome to Episode 25 of Flying Tortuga Adventures! 🐢⛵ Our Chesapeake Bay adventure brings us to the Patuxent River across from Solomons Island, Maryland, where we spend the night at anchor across from a Naval station, where the peaceful Chesapeake scenery comes with an unexpected soundtrack of airplanes flying overhead, and helicopters rising out of the trees close to shore, hovering over us and then disappearing back behind the trees ! ✈️🚁 It definitely makes for an interesting aboard the Flying Tortuga. We haul anchor and head over to Beacon Marina at Solomon’s island to explore this charming waterfront community and hit up West Marine for a few supplies. We have dinner out, on our way to the ice 🍦 cream shop, we discover a beautiful little mariner themed church adorned with amazing stained glass. Thanks to a member of the church, we get an inside tour and get to hear the pipe organ! ⛪️🎶 We also visit a local museum, learn a little more about the area's maritime history, and enjoy wandering around Solomons Island before it's time to say goodbye. After three nights in the area — one at anchor and two at Beacon Marina — we're ready to head farther north up the Chesapeake Bay and see what adventures are waiting for us next!
