The General Original and Stone Mountain

The original General locomotive that led the Great Locomotive Chase during the Civil War. It was restored during 1961-62 by the L&N railroad and operated and displayed at many events through the 60s. The scenes here were filmed as part of the 1962 NRHS convention in Atlanta GA. The conventioneers also visited Stone Mountain, where a loop of track was laid around the mountain and two much newer locomotives were cosmetically backdated to represent the General and Texas. The usual (for the era) tourist railroad hijinks ensued.
