The Hindenburg was one of the largest aircraft ever built — an enormous German passenger airship designed to make transatlantic travel faster, more comfortable and more luxurious. On May 6th, 1937, it arrived at Lakehurst, New Jersey, for what was supposed to be a routine landing. Then, while hovering above the ground, it suddenly caught fire. Within roughly 34 seconds, the Hindenburg had been consumed by flames. What makes the disaster extraordinary is that cameras were there that evening. The fire, the collapse and the desperate attempts to escape were captured on film — giving us a direct glimpse of one of history's most famous disasters. In this video, we look at the Hindenburg, its final flight, the disaster itself, the theories surrounding what caused the fire, and the aftermath. This isn't a reconstruction. The footage you're watching was captured in 1937. Welcome to The Curious Side Of… — strange facts, amazing animals, weird history and extraordinary events that make you look at the world a little differently. Stay curious. 🎈 #Hindenburg #History #HistoricalEvents #Disasters #HistoryDocumentary #TrueStory #TheCuriousSideOf
