What if music could bring back a memory that felt lost forever? 🎵 In this episode of Raq The Boat, I sit down with Leslie and Abby — two junior high school students from Texas and co-founders of Music Bridge, a teen-led organization that performs live music for nursing home residents and creates deeply personal connections through the power of song. Their secret? The Music Memory Box. Before each performance, residents write down their favorite songs on index cards — and Leslie, Abby, and their team of 15-20 performers practice those songs so that when they show up, they’re playing music that actually means something to the people in that room. The emotional reactions, especially in memory care settings, say everything. Leslie plays flute. Abby plays guitar and piano. And together they’ve built something that reminds us all what music is really for. In this episode we cover: 🎵 What Music Bridge is and how it all started from personal nursing home volunteer experiences 📦 The Music Memory Box — how collecting residents’ favorite songs transforms every performance 🏥 What performing in memory care settings is really like — and why it matters so much 🎶 How 15-20 teen performers show up and deliver a full hour of meaningful live music 💛 Why consistent visits build real relationships with residents — not just one-time moments 🌱 What leading Music Bridge has meant for Leslie as her very first leadership role 🎸 How playing flute, guitar, and piano led two junior high students to start a movement 🤝 How they reach out to new nursing homes and grow their impact beyond their home facility Leslie and Abby aren’t just performing music. They’re giving people back a piece of themselves. 🎙️ Raq The Boat is hosted by Raquel Borras — youth advocate, documentary filmmaker, and founder of Raqvision LLC. This show amplifies the voices of young people ages 9–17 who are out here doing big things. 🎬 Watch the full documentary I Hear You, Gen Z — [link in bio] 🔔 Subscribe so you never miss an episode 👍 Like this video if music has ever moved you in an unexpected way #RaqTheBoat #MusicBridge #MusicMemoryBox #NursingHomeMusic #TeenMusicians #MemoryCare #MusicHeals #YouthLeadership #LiveMusic #TeenFounders #MusicAndMemory #GivingBack #CommunityService #KidPodcast #MusicForGood
