If your life feels a little... blah... Maybe you don't need another goal. Maybe you don't need to work harder. Maybe you don't need another morning routine, productivity hack, or self-help book. Maybe you need to make something. A few weeks ago, we had a refrigerator delivered to one of our properties, and the cardboard box was too big to throw away. So naturally, it came home with us. 😂 And my younger girls have been slowly destroying this thing by turning it into all kinds of creations. One rainy Saturday morning, I just sat in the living room and watched them create. And it reminded me: Kids don't need a reason to create. They don't ask: Can I monetize this? Will I be good at this? Is this productive? What's the ROI on this cardboard box? 😂 They create because creating is fun. And somewhere along the way, a lot of adults lose that. In this episode, we're talking about: Why I believe humans were created to create What children can teach us about creativity Why overconsumption can leave us feeling drained The difference between consuming and creating Why you don't have to be talented at your creative outlet My unfinished paint-by-number 😂 How creativity turns your imagination back on Why boredom can actually lead kids—and adults—back into creativity Why I care more about my girls using their imaginations than having a perfectly clean living room Why your entire day does NOT have to be productive The importance of doing things simply because they're fun How creativity, joy, and the life you're creating are connected My girls actually gave me one of the best examples. After school, they wanted to watch TV and their iPads. Eventually, I'd had enough and told them to shut it off. Immediately: “I'm bored. There's nothing to do.” Within about 30 seconds? They'd created a whole game called Neighbors, built forts in my living room, and were completely immersed in their imaginations. And you know what? I'll take the messy living room. Because I love watching them create more than I love having a perfectly tidy house. Timestamps 00:00 — Apparently I need a new podcast intro 😂 00:30 — Why I'm seeing proof of this everywhere 00:38 — Created in the image of God 01:05 — Children are naturally creative 01:30 — The giant refrigerator box 02:05 — Watching my girls create 02:25 — Maybe THIS is what's missing from your life 03:03 — Creating vs. doom scrolling 03:21 — What would you do with Play-Doh? 03:57 — My paint-by-number 04:27 — I don't like painting inside the lines 😂 04:37 — Where is your creative outlet? 05:04 — Why imagination matters 05:35 — Turning off the TV and iPads 05:56 — “There's nothing to do!” 06:07 — Thirty seconds later... creativity 06:09 — My kids' game of Neighbors 06:28 — Messy house vs. imaginative kids 06:49 — How this sparked MY creativity 07:06 — Your whole day doesn't need to be productive 07:38 — Integrating creative spots into your day 08:16 — Why I actually love writing 08:24 — Should I write poetry? 😂 08:41 — Creativity creates joy 09:02 — Your joy is contagious 09:12 — Find something that refuels you 09:31 — It's all a game What You'll Take Away Why a lack of creativity can sometimes feel like a lack of fulfillment. How constant consumption can crowd out imagination. Why you don't have to be talented at something to enjoy creating it. How creativity can reconnect you with dreaming. Why boredom isn't necessarily something we need to immediately fix. The value of having parts of your day with no measurable purpose. Why fun and joy deserve space in a high-achieving life. How creating can become a way to refuel rather than another thing you have to accomplish. Ready to Go Deeper? Here's your challenge: Create something this week that serves absolutely no practical purpose. Paint. Write. Garden. Bake something ridiculous. Build something. Crochet. Play with Play-Doh. Rearrange a room. Whatever sounds FUN. And don't turn it into a business. Don't worry about whether you're good at it. Don't even worry about finishing it. Just create. Because maybe the thing that's been missing isn't another accomplishment. Maybe it's more fun. 👉 Explore private coaching with me Connect With Me 📸 Instagram @stephaniesnyderphd 🌐 StephanieSnyderPhD.com 🎥 YouTube @stephaniesnyderphd SEO Keywords creative outlet ideas, feeling stuck in life, feeling unfulfilled, how to be creative, benefits of creativity, creativity and joy, stop doom scrolling, high achiever burnout, creativity for adults, finding fulfillment, intentional living, creativity and faith, imagination, personal growth, how to have more fun
