The Oberstockenalp Mountain Inn: The alp has been in operation for generations and is accessible only on foot. • 2026 Opening Hours: The Oberstockenalp Mountain Inn is open daily from May 30 through October 18, 2026. The inn is closed during the winter. • Cuisine: The inn serves homemade dairy products, award-winning alpine cheese, and grilled specialties from the large “fire ring.” • Accommodations: In addition to a rustic dormitory for up to 30 people and simple double rooms, the alp features three exclusive “Stärnebetten”—transparent, geodesic domes that offer an unobstructed view of the night sky. Popular Hikes to the Alp: • The Classic (Stockhorn Panorama Trail): Take the cable car to the summit, then follow a gentle descent across the Stockenfeld to the Oberstockenalp (about 40 minutes). From there, continue down past the idyllic Hinterstockensee to the Chrindi midway station (total walking time: about 2 to 2.5 hours). • Ascent from the midway station: From the Chrindi cable car midway station, a well-marked hiking trail leads up to the alp in about 40 minutes. • For the adventurous (Strüssligrat): If you’re sure-footed and have a head for heights, choose the spectacular alpine route over the Strüssligrat directly to the alp.
