This time I choose to visit three airports in Germany, out of which two would be completely new in my logbook. Landing at four different airports the same day would also be a new personal record for me. Keeping the number of new airports at two helped to keep the amount of preparation and workload at a reasonable level. In this video I share with you the second leg of the day, from Trier-Foehren (EDRT) to Koblenz-Winningen (EDRK). This time I left much more in the edited video, including 100% of the flows and checklists, all ATC communications, and basically everything I did during the flight. Koblenz is special as they have two patterns active at the same time for the same runway on the Northern and Southern side of the airport. As I was coming from the Southwest, I expected the Southern pattern to be recommended by AFIS, so when they actually said Northern, I did not realise I was on the "wrong" side. Nobody ever said anything after I read back my joining intentions for the opposite (left hand) pattern, and I only noticed this mix-up while editing the video... Also, I was on converging bases with another aircraft, so I followed the tower personnel's recommendation and made an orbit on left base to avoid the potential conflict, which lead to some improvised - but mostly good - procedure in proximity of high terrain. This was my second visit to Koblenz, but my first time was with a different aircraft type, on the opposite pattern, and in the opposite landing direction, so this video definitely contains a lot of new material. 00:00 Before start checklist 01:06 Engine start 01:37 After start checklist 01:53 Before taxi checklist 03:08 Requesting departure information from Trier Info 03:28 Taxi to the holding point (and some extra departure briefing) 04:50 Before take-off checklist 05:32 Lining up 06:04 Take-off EDRT RWY 22 06:40 After take-off flow 06:47 Early turn left according to the departure procedure 07:12 Passing 500' above the pattern altitude 07:50 Leaving the aerodrome area 08:19 Checking in with Langen Information (no flight plan this time) 08:54 Balancing the fuel tanks and after take-off checklist (flow was already done) 09:15 Welcome message and briefing for this flight 10:21 Arrival briefing for Koblenz 10:41 Views along the Moselle 10:54 SkyDemon setup for the arrival (other traffic towards Koblenz audible) 11:27 Starting the descent 11:53 Leaving Langen Information 12:17 Contacting Koblenz Radio for landing information 12:43 Incorrect read-back - never noticed... 12:55 Descent and Approach checklists (Burg Eltz in front of the wing) 13:24 Clearing turns during descent 13:56 Airfield in sight 14:23 Unusually high terrain below 14:42 Joining the left hand pattern at the beginning of the downwind 15:12 Amazing views on downwind (viaduct, river, valley slopes, airfield, TV tower) 15:29 Traffic on the opposite side of the airfield in the Northern pattern 15:46 Close (but as close as I should be) to the TV tower 16:17 Turning left base, while the traffic on the other side is turning right base 16:37 Traffic information (and avoidance suggestion) from AFIS 16:48 An orbit to the right to avoid the converging traffic 17:48 Re-joining the base leg 18:18 Turning final (landing lights on, flaps landing checked, brakes off checked) 18:32 Final call 19:00 Landing EDRK RWY 23 (followed by replays from other angles) 19:41 Wheel shimmy on the landing roll 20:00 Runway vacated, taxi to the grass parking 20:53 Parking 21:08 After landing checklist 21:17 Quick debrief and plans for the rest of the day 21:56 Shutdown flow (following the checklist)
