The New Chinese Fishing Rods Could End the Entire Fishing Rod Industry in Australia!

Could Chinese fishing rods end the fishing rod industry in Australia? This video puts the question to the numbers: Australia's own fishing rod import figures from the UN Comtrade database, what Tackle World lists about its rods, what Shimano and Daiwa's parent company say about their own factories, and what an Australian buyer finds on Amazon Australia. The trade data in short: China supplied 87.6% of the fishing rods Australia imported in 2015 and 89.3% in 2025, counted in pieces (76.9% and 82.2% by value). Vietnam is the supplier that grew, from 37,620 rods in 2015 to 172,738 in 2025. The market itself grew 22% in rods and 46% in value over ten years. Comtrade shows the country the rods came from, not the brand, the shop price or who owns the label. What the shops show: on 20 October 2026 the Tackle World website listed 282 products in its fishing rods section (116 Daiwa, 109 Shimano, 30 Okuma), and the phrases made in, manufactured in, product of, assembled in and country of origin appeared zero times. Regular prices read that day: Shimano Eclipse Lumo telescopic A$29.95, Shimano Spectrum Plus telescopic from A$35.99, Silstar Rambler telescopic A$50 to A$60, Berkley Nomadic telescopic A$60. Four telescopic rods from Sougayilang, Goture and EOW showed headline prices of A$35.88 to A$80.45 on Amazon Australia, and the Goture and EOW listings showed Amazon Germany as shipper and seller. Tackle World says stock varies from store to store. What this video does not claim: no rod was cast, weighed or tested, and tonnage figures on listings are the seller's own marketing. The Weihai figures (six in ten of the world's rods, more than 5,000 businesses, 820 million yuan of exports in January and February 2026) are claims from promotional Xinhua Silk Road articles distributed through PR Newswire, not audited counts. Shimano and Globeride (Daiwa's parent company) list factories in Asia but do not say which rod comes from which factory. No figure that predicts the end of the Australian rod industry turned up. No sponsor and no affiliate links: every link below is a plain page. What brand is on the rod you use most, and does its tag say where it was made? Put it in the comments, and subscribe to Aussie Fishing Guide for fishing tackle facts and prices read off the source. 0:00 Nine in ten rods imported into Australia come from China 0:34 The title is a question: what this video checks 1:06 Weihai: big numbers from promotional articles 2:12 Tackle World: 282 rod listings, none says where it was made 3:09 Compleat Angler: the shop that sometimes names the country 3:47 What a listing does say: the blank and the tonnage 4:36 What Shimano and Daiwa's parent company say about factories 5:26 The limit: which rod comes from which factory 6:07 Back in Weihai: Handing, Guangwei and the one-hour claim 7:04 Comtrade: China's share of rod imports since 2015 8:06 Vietnam is the supplier that grew 9:12 The size of the market and the declared value per rod 10:35 Amazon Australia: Sougayilang, Goture and EOW 11:39 KastKing, Compleat Angler's catalogue, BCF and Anaconda 12:14 Price beside material: Tackle World against Amazon 13:36 So could Chinese rods end the industry? 14:08 Your turn: who rolled the blank in your hand Sources (prices read 20 Oct 2026): UN Comtrade, Australia fishing rod imports, HS 950710 https://comtradeapi.un.org/public/v1/... · Tackle World fishing rods catalogue https://www.tackleworld.com.au/collec... · Compleat Angler Nedlands catalogue https://compleatanglernedlands.com.au... · Xinhua Silk Road, Weihai, 8 Nov 2025 (advertorial, Laotian Times) https://laotiantimes.com/2025/11/08/x... · Xinhua Silk Road, Weihai exports, 14 Apr 2026 (Manila Times) https://www.manilatimes.net/2026/04/1... · Shimano Kunshan https://www.shimano.com/en/company/lo... · Globeride (Daiwa) https://www.globeride.co.jp/about/ · Okuma https://www.okumafishing.com/en/about · Goture https://www.goture.com/pages/about-us · Sougayilang https://sougayilang.com/ · Amazon Australia listings https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07Y59S15J https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0FCLQJ9X1 https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07YS868L6 https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09T2PD33Z #fishingrods #chinesefishingrods #fishingaustralia #fishingtackle #aussiefishing #tackleworld
