The Golden Ring of Russia

The Golden Ring of Russia is a famous circular tourist route located northeast of Moscow. It strings together a collection of ancient, medieval towns and cities that preserve the core history, unique white-stone architecture, and spiritual heart of old Russia  This region is widely considered the cradle of Russian statehood. Centuries ago, as the power of Kievan Rus waned, the political and cultural center of the nation shifted to these independent northern principalities (like Vladimir-Suzdal) before eventually cementing in Moscow. It is a treasure trove of 12th- to 17th-century architecture, featuring robust white-stone kremlins (fortresses), medieval active monasteries, and UNESCO World Heritage sites.
