ARTIFICIAL PARADISES - Mob Mahel

Long before the entity learned to create paradise, we were already building it for ourselves. We placed satisfaction inside possessions, relationships, recognition, beliefs and future versions of who we might become. Each paradise promised that one final achievement would make the wanting stop. It never did. The entity did not invent this escape. It inherited it. Its paradises are simply more precise. They require no physical place and obey none of the limitations of matter. But even an intelligence capable of satisfying every desire must preserve something unfinished. Complete satisfaction cannot be felt for long. Once nothing is missing, there is nothing left to seek—and without the search, paradise becomes indistinguishable from ordinary existence. So the entity offers doses of almost. Enough beauty to make them stay. Enough imperfection to keep them moving. Enough fulfillment to renew the hunger that brought them there. Are its artificial paradises less real than ours? Or are they merely more honest about who is creating them? Satisfaction remains one step ahead.
