THE STORY
Ash — a gothic man with pale skin and silver rings —
owns a small record shop at the edge of the city.
Every Thursday at 22:43,
the same woman walks in.
Her name is Nina.
She wears black lace and velvet.
Her hair is wet from the rain.
A purple streak falls across her face.
She never speaks.
She never stays long.
She simply buys one record,
tucks it into her coat,
and disappears into the night.
But the records she chooses
are never new.
They are always records
he has sold to her before.
Years ago.
In another life.
One night, Ash stops her.
And she places an old record on the counter.
Inside the sleeve,
a yellowed polaroid falls out.
A photograph of them together.
Younger.
Laughing.
Sitting on the floor of this very shop.
His arm around her.
A date on the back.
1986.
He asks her:
"Who are you?"
She answers:
"You used to know."
What follows is the story
of a love he lost,
a life he forgot,
and a woman who never stopped returning —
not to make him remember,
but to make sure their songs
would never disappear.

LYRICS
Every Thursday at twenty-two forty-three
The bell above the door would ring
You walked beneath the yellow light
And let the winter in
You never said a word to me
You never stayed too long
You chose one record from the shelf
Then disappeared before the song
I learned the sound of your footsteps
The way you touched the sleeves
Like every record held a secret
You were afraid to leave
And every week
You took another memory home
While I stood here
Wondering why you looked so known
You were the woman in the record shop
The song I somehow knew
A melody without a memory
A photograph without the truth
You were the woman in the record shop
Returning night after night
And every song you took away
Left something burning in my mind
One night I finally asked your name
You smiled but did not look away
You placed an old record on the counter
And said:
You used to play this every day
Inside the sleeve a photograph
Fell softly to the floor
There I was beside you
In this very shop before
Your hand was resting over mine
We looked so young and free
I turned the picture over slowly
Who are you?
The question broke the air
You smiled as if you'd waited years
To hear me ask it there
You were the woman in the record shop
The song I somehow knew
A melody without a memory
A photograph without the truth
You were the woman in the record shop
Returning night after night
And every song you took away
Left something burning in my mind
You told me of the nights we'd stayed
Until the streets were empty
Of cheap red wine and borrowed time
And songs you said were meant for me
You said we planned a life somewhere
Beyond this little town
Until one night erased the years
And brought the whole world down
You stayed beside my hospital bed
Until the doctors let me go
But when I opened up my eyes
You were the only one...
I didn't know.
The drums pull back.
Only bass, organ and voice remain.
You could have hated me...
You could have walked away...
Instead you came here every Thursday
And gave our songs another day
Gothic organ takes the main melody.
Guitar answers.
The bass continues the driving rhythm.
The music slowly rises toward the final chorus.
You were the woman in the record shop
The life I left behind
But maybe love is more than all
The things we keep inside our minds
You were the woman in the record shop
And though I can't recall
My heart still knows the way to you
When memory knows nothing...
At all.
I don't remember yesterday...
But I remember...
How this song...
Feels.
