What If Asta's Mother Raised Him Herself

A mother who drains life from anyone near her raises her magicless son at rope's length, refusing to leave him at Hage church the night she meant to abandon him. Lucita spends fifteen years hauling Asta behind her in a cart, teaching him to survive in the Forsaken Realm while her anti-magic slowly kills everything she touches. When he earns his grimoire and joins the Magic Knights, she walks him to the capital exam herself, facing down nobles who collapse in her presence and a captain who recognizes what she costs to stand upright. The narration follows their years on the road, Asta's friendship with a small devil named Leba, his rivalry with Yuno, and the night Lucita finally lets go of the rope on the church step where his story began.
