5 of 8: Requiem: An Artistic Remembrance of the Victims, The Survivors and the Aftermath of 9/11 Dermot Kennedy | Lost A Second Life Dance Video Choreography/Set Design/Dancer: Imy Doll ARTIST'S MEMORY | IMY DOLL I was always interested in music. When 9/11 happened, it was during my free period in 6th grade. 6th grade. I spent most of my free periods in the band room, choir room, or theatre working on some sort of project. That day, I wanted to practice. All three practice rooms were full, so I locked myself in one of the locker rooms. Which is why it took me so long to believe what was happening. Because it seems so unlikely, doesn't it? You don't tell an 11 year old that terrorists just hit the twin towers and you have to come outside and watch the news and just expect them to react like, "Oh, yeah, that's exactly what I expected to hear on a random Tuesday morning." But it happened. And things have continued to happen. And guys I'm just so tired - I needed the reminder of the lyrics of this song, and so I hope that they will sooth your heart if it's as weary as mine. At 11 years old I didn't fully understand the gravity of what was happening but I will never get the image of people jumping from the towers out of my head ... the hopelessness that comes from making a choice like that. My entire adolescence was shaped by what happened that day. I don't think I will ever understand why humans are so awful to each other.
