For a fourth straight day, record king tides pushed the Pacific into Southern California beach towns. Huntington Beach is under a local emergency and counts 114 properties damaged this week, mostly in Sunset Beach, where Pacific Coast Highway closed again on Thursday as seawater came up through the storm drains. The Los Angeles tide gauge in San Pedro broke its all-time record on Monday and again on Tuesday at about 8.19 feet (preliminary NOAA data), San Diego Bay reached about 8.52 feet, Santa Barbara beat its record four days in a row, and Newport Beach hit 8.4 feet, the highest ever recorded there. Seawater also flooded streets in Long Beach, Redondo Beach, Mission Beach and Marin County. Governor Gavin Newsom warned tides could reach up to 9 feet around Christmas, and a Halloween weekend storm is on the way. Figures as of Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2026.
