Maria B. v/s Shehzad Ghias | Its not Right v/s Left, it's Right v/s Wrong

The legal battle between fashion designer Maria B and comedian/podcaster Shehzad Ghias has sparked controversy across Pakistan — but inMeri Rai, I’m not here to take sides. Instead, I talk about something far more important: Our growing inability to tolerate disagreement. Why do we only support the people we "like"? Why can’t we uphold principles — like free speech, constructive criticism, and accountability — even when they challenge our own biases? In this episode, I reflect on: What this case reveals about Pakistan’s culture of silencing dissent Why personal loyalty should not override public values And why real progress requires respectful disagreement, not hero worship This isn’t about Maria B or Shehzad Ghias — this is about all of us. Let’s learn to defend ideas, not just individuals.
