Was This the Best Breakfast on the Camino?

I walked over a 13th century bridge in the dark and watch the sun rise on Hospital de Órbigo. On day 15 of the Summer Camino, I walked two hours from San Martín before dawn, then sat down to orange juice, pastry, and café con leche as the light broke over the bridge where Don Suero once fought his famous lance contest, a scene that may have shaped Cervantes’ Don Quixote. Birds cut across the sky in every direction. I lingered for a second coffee, in no hurry to leave. Some mornings just ask you to stay. I eventually got up and made it to Astorga. Only a few days left now, but this breakfast felt eternal.
