Before space had direction, before time had movement, before day and night, before death and immortality—what was there? This song is inspired by the Nasadiya Sukta, the extraordinary Hymn of Creation found in Rig Veda 10.129. The Nasadiya Sukta approaches the beginning of existence as a mystery. Its opening takes us beyond familiar categories: there was neither existence nor non-existence. There was no realm above or below, no ordinary measure of time, and no familiar world through which the beginning could be understood. Then something appears within the mystery: “The One,” described as breathing without breath, sustained through its own power. And then comes a stirring. Kāma—desire—arises as the first seed of mind. Then comes one of the hymn’s most remarkable ideas: The gods came afterward. If even the gods arose after the beginning, who witnessed the beginning itself? The Nasadiya Sukta carries that question all the way to its astonishing conclusion. Perhaps the highest overseer knows how everything arose. Perhaps even that one does not know. The mystery remains open. That is why the recurring question in this song is simply: “Who knows?” Thousands of years after the Nasadiya Sukta was composed, humanity continues asking the same fundamental question: How did all of this begin? Perhaps the question itself is part of the wonder. 🌌 Inspired by Rig Veda 10.129 — Nasadiya Sukta, the Hymn of Creation. 📚 WANT TO LEARN MORE?
