You can spend weeks, even months, building, programming and checking everything on the bench. But nothing tells you how a plane really flies except the first time it's in the air. ⚖️ Is the CG right? The center of gravity is set from the manual and checked on the ground. If it's off even a little, the jet can be twitchy, nose-heavy, or flat-out uncontrollable. You won't know until you're airborne. 🎛️ Is the trim close? A brand-new airframe almost never flies straight on the first try. Those first few seconds after takeoff are spent fighting the plane while you click in trim at over 100 mph. 📡 Are the throws and setup right? Control surface throws, expo, gyro settings, gear, flaps, brakes, the fail-safe… one wrong setting or reversed channel can end the flight before it starts. 🔥 Will the turbine behave? A new install means new fuel lines, new tanks, and new plumbing. An air bubble, a kinked line, a fuel problem, or an ECU setting can cause a flameout. When a turbine quits, you're suddenly flying a very fast, very heavy glider, and you get one shot at the landing. 💸 What's on the line? A turbine jet can represent thousands of dollars in airframe, engine, radio, and electronics, plus countless hours of build time. All of it is riding on your thumbs. 🧠 The pressure is real. Everyone at the field stops what they're doing to watch. Your heart is pounding and your hands are sweating. Then the jet does something you never planned for… like a flameout on the maiden. 😅 That's why experienced jet pilots do range checks, fuel-system checks, taxi tests, and a careful pre-flight before every maiden.
