Brett Beaudry – The World of Cinematic Street Photography

Brett Beaudry is a street photographer from the Bay Area who brings a moody, cinematic edge to his shots. By day he works as a salesman, but at night (and increasingly during the day too) he’s out on the streets with his camera, capturing the gritty, atmospheric side of city life. He picked up photography seriously around 2020 during the lockdowns and quickly gravitated toward San Francisco. He loves the tall buildings, the mix of people, the fog and weather, and the way the city can feel both beautiful and a little mysterious. His photos often have that classic noir vibe that is heavy on dramatic lighting, deep shadows, silhouettes, and strong contrasts that make everyday scenes feel like a movie. Brett draws a lot of inspiration from films, especially stuff like Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. He’ll even play the soundtrack while shooting to get in the right headspace. His goal is to create images that carry real emotion and that cinematic feeling. Lately he’s been pushing himself into new territory, experimenting more with bright daylight and long shadows during trips to places like Chicago. He prefers shooting alone so he can move at his own pace without distractions. His go-to is usually a 35mm focal length because it works so well for street environments, it gives just enough context without feeling too wide or cramped. What stands out about Brett is how personal the work feels for him. He’s not chasing likes, trends, or validation, he shoots what matters to him and stays consistent with his vision. He’s out there often, not overthinking it, just staying present and reacting to the scene in front of him.
