A year of practicing, experimenting, and discovering what the Free-Style Paddle Brush can actually do — and figuring out whether I would even enjoy working with it, let alone become any good at it. Well… apparently I liked it, because here we are, one year later, and I’m still nowhere near finished discovering it! Along the way, my abstract acrylic paintings became more technical, sharper, and more refined. I kept introducing new materials and techniques, experimenting with acrylic paint, masking tape, fine brushes, transparent layers, negative space, gold leaf, and all kinds of little tricks to create crisp lines, depth, movement, and almost 3D effects. The materials improved too — better paint, better tape, and plenty of trial and error to figure out how to make everything work together. What started as simply learning how to use a paddle brush slowly turned into exploring how I can combine different materials and techniques to create something that feels more and more like my own. But did I actually manage to discover a personal style along the way? Is there something recognizable in these paintings beyond the botanical inspiration of the paddle brush strokes? I think it might be hiding somewhere in the flow, the dynamics, the way I play with depth and movement, and all those little tricks that make the brushstrokes interact with each other and create the illusion of space. I guess I’ll have to keep experimenting to find out. 😉 For now, I’m still having a lot of fun with it — and I’m very curious to see where the next year of paddle brush painting will take me. What do you think? Can you already see a personal style developing throughout these 20 paintings? 00:00 Discovering How the Brush Works 00:49 First Multicolor Brushstrokes 02:01 Trying to Create Something Abstract, Not Botanical 02:59 Bringing the Fine Brushes Even More Into the Mix 04:01 Exploring Colorful Backgrounds & Learning to Blend 04:59 Finding a Cosmic Atmosphere 06:25 Safari Vibes 07:42 Using Both Sides of the Brush 08:58 Wet-on-Wet Brushstrokes 10:23 Minimalistic with Negative Space 11:00 Violet Swoops & Layers 12:20 Playing with Strokes Weaving Over & Under 12:51 Diptych & Gold Leaf 13:34 Crisp Horizon & More Gold Leaf 14:06 Discovering More Ways to Play with Tape & Movement 14:48 “Elegant Grey Background – Part I” 15:31 “Elegant Grey Background – Part II” 16:06 “Elegant Grey Background – Part III” 16:43 With a Twist 17:54 Layers, Depth & Dark Fairytale Vibes Whether you're here to learn more about fluid art techniques or simply enjoy the soothing process of paint in motion, I hope this video inspires you!
