When two become one – Dual trolley STS container cranes | Liebherr

Witness the remarkable journey of our three new Liebherr ship-to-shore dual trolley cranes. Built in Killarney, Ireland, they were transported semi-erect to HHLA’s Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) in Hamburg, Germany. ‪@HHLA_Group‬ The cranes were carried aboard a heavy-load carrier with their booms lowered. Our innovative patent-pending jacking technology made this possible. It allowed the cranes to pass safely under low bridges during transport and arrive in Hamburg without disassembly. Once at CTA, we raised the booms and prepared the cranes for operation. Each cabinless crane features a 61 m outreach, 53 m lift height, 25.5 m back reach, and a 75-tonne safe working load under twin lift. Fully automated and remotely controlled from a dedicated operations centre, they represent the next generation of efficient, smart port equipment. Our dual trolley technology provides outstanding flexibility and productivity. The primary trolley transfers containers between the ship and landside. At the same time, the second trolley transfers containers to automated guided vehicles (AGVs). This parallel operation reduces waiting times, improves safety, and speeds up vessel turnaround. This delivery marks the first milestone in our long-term partnership with HHLA. Together, we share a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability.
