Welcome to 'Characterization of Construction Materials' course ! This lecture explores the applications of FTIR spectroscopy in studying cementitious materials, specifically cement and slag hydration. Learn about: Using FTIR to monitor the hydration process of cement and slag, observing the formation of hydration products and changes in chemical bonding. Analyzing the influence of different factors on hydration, such as time, temperature, and binder composition. Typical sample preparation for FTIR analysis of cementitious materials: Crushing powders to a fine size to minimize scattering. Mixing with liquid paraffin (Nujol) or pelletizing with potassium bromide (KBr). NPTEL Courses permit certifications that can be used for Course Credits in Indian Universities as per the UGC and AICTE notifications.
