At my core, I’m softhearted. My mother’s son. The little boy my grandparents raised before the world gave me reasons to be guarded. But what happens when the way you protect yourself starts feeling inconsistent with who you really are? Being vulnerable is hard—in your relationship, your friendships, even creating content like this. You want connection, but the fear of being ignored, rejected, misunderstood, or called soft can keep you holding back. And sometimes that guard follows you into the very spaces where you’re trying to unload: a group, therapy, or a conversation with your pastor. I’m sharing this through my experience as a Black man, including the cultural expectations around strength and showing emotion. But whomever you are, there’s room for your experience in this conversation, too. I’m not always going to have an answer. Some of this I’m still working through. But I promise to make you think, feel, and challenge you to dig deeper into your own shit—so maybe you can help somebody else with theirs. If you’re willing to get into deeper waters with me, subscribe and stay part of these conversations. What helps you feel safe enough to let your guard down? Tell me in the comments. Share only what you’re comfortable sharing. Explore my books and speaking: https://www.isipublishingllc.com #Vulnerability #BlackMen #EmotionalHonesty #PersonalGrowth #JustMe
