Burnout might be the most overused word we have right now, and in this solo episode Amy asks whether we have started reaching for it too easily. Feeling tired, flat or done with work is real, but it is not automatically burnout, and you cannot diagnose burnout from a quiz or a staff survey. Amy makes the case that it is a complex clinical state, shares what she learned the humbling way about her own experience of it, and looks at the part workplaces play without letting the word do more work than it should. It is an honest, careful conversation about naming things accurately, and about knowing when the right next step is professional support. In this episode, you'll explore You'll consider whether burnout has become the word we reach for by default, and what that costs us when it is used loosely. You'll hear why burnout cannot be self-diagnosed from a survey, and why the way we collect data can mislead us. You'll sit with Amy's own experience, and why doing all the wellbeing things is no guarantee against it. You'll look at how workplaces contribute to burnout without being the whole cause, and why a resilience workshop is not the answer. You'll come away with a clearer sense of when to stop labelling and start seeking proper support. "Real burnout is far more than being tired or over it." "I was doing everything I thought I had to do to look after myself, and I still ended up burnt out." "Workplaces are part of this, but they are not the whole of it." "If you think you have burnout, go and get professional help."
