Nobody is talking about this... and they should be...

Jaroslav Chmelar is heading to the Hartford Wolf Pack and Taylor Raddysh is coming up, after the Rangers' 7-1 loss to the Devils on October 15, 2026 — and every piece of coverage is calling the demotion good for Chmelar's development without mentioning the one number that could quietly cost him a full season toward unrestricted free agency. The NHL's CBA defines an Accrued Season as a league year in which a player spends 40 regular season games (30 for goaltenders) on his club's active roster — miss that threshold and the season doesn't count toward the 7 Accrued Seasons (or age 27) a player needs to reach UFA status. At 23, on his entry-level deal, every day Chmelar spends in Hartford this season is a day that isn't building toward that number. This video breaks down the rule nobody checked, the Rempe-Raddysh-Chmelar minutes fight underneath it, and the Dan Girardi parallel — an undrafted defenseman who also started in Hartford and became a 13-year Ranger — before giving an honest, opinionated read on what this front office is actually optimizing for this fall. — SOURCES — NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement, Article 1 (Definitions) and Article 10 (Free Agency), full text PDF: https://sports-entertainment.brooklaw...
