Did Anakin Skywalker REALLY Fulfill the Chosen One Prophecy? | Star Wars Explained

Anakin Skywalker was destined to bring balance to the Force. But how could the Chosen One fulfill an ancient prophecy after destroying the Jedi Order, becoming Darth Vader, and serving Darth Sidious for more than two decades? For years, Anakin's story seems to contradict everything the Jedi believed about the Chosen One. He did not stop the rise of the Empire. He did not save the Jedi. And when he had the opportunity to destroy Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith, he chose the opposite path. So was Anakin Skywalker actually a failure? Or was his fall into darkness an unexpected part of the destiny he was always meant to fulfill? In this deep dive, we explore Anakin's prophecy from The Phantom Menace through The Clone Wars, the mysterious events on Mortis, his transformation into Darth Vader, the destruction of the Jedi Order, and finally his confrontation with Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi. Because Anakin did not fulfill the prophecy when he became Darth Vader. He did not fulfill it when he destroyed the Jedi. He fulfilled it when he finally made the one choice Palpatine never believed he could make. He chose his son. And in doing so, Anakin Skywalker destroyed Darth Sidious, rejected the dark side, and returned to the light. But the story raises an even deeper question: If Anakin truly was the Chosen One, why did the Force allow him to fall so far in the first place? Was his redemption always part of the prophecy? Or did Anakin fulfill his destiny despite everything he had become?
