The Blind Side (2009): 15 insane behind the scenes facts you never knew
Every major studio turned this movie down, and their reasons were almost comical. The money came from the FedEx billionaire who lived down the street from the Tuohys in Memphis, and years later his son married the real Collins Tuohy. The family in the movie married into the family that funded it.
Nick Saban played himself, handed the script back, and improvised his entire recruiting scene from memory. Six real college coaches appear in the film, and the real coach the story is built around is hiding inside it in an uncredited cameo under a completely different name. Sandra Bullock said no three times before a handgun in a glove compartment changed her mind.
That famous test score putting Michael Oher in the 98th percentile for protective instincts? Completely invented. So was the ketchup scene, and Oher says scouts used it against him for his entire NFL career. Even the adoption wasn't an adoption, and the real reason involves Ole Miss and NCAA booster rules nobody mentions on screen.
And the bonus: Bullock cut her own $10 million fee in half to make this movie, and that gamble ended up making her the highest paid actress in Hollywood that year.
