The US Central Command (CENTCOM) carried out extensive airstrikes on military targets of the Iran Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including in Sistan-Baluchestan and the Hormozgan provinces, encompassing Bandar Abbas and Larak Island. The strikes were described as a "retaliatory response" triggered by Iran's attempt to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz and a missile attack targeting a US military base in Jordan. In response, the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran warned that America would face "crushing and devastating blows" and pay a heavy price for its military mistake. Citing Iranian military sources, the Tasnim News Agency reported that Iran's response to the US airstrikes would be "manifold greater" than previous attacks, and reports are emerging that retaliatory measures have already begun. However, the US has warned that if Iran launches another attack in response, it will face an even more destructive strike unlike anything seen before, one that would severely harm the country.
