On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Russian President Vladimir Putin assured Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during their discussion that Russia is supporting and providing necessary materials to Tehran during this difficult time. Despite tensions in the Caucasus and the Strait of Hormuz, he noted that trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Iran continue to strengthen, citing free trade agreements concluded with the Eurasian Economic Union as evidence of this progress. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the strategic relations between Tehran and Moscow have helped Iran withstand the United States, and noted that both countries share a similar stance in efforts to build a multipolar world order free from unilateral dominance.
