FFA Director-General Noan David Pakop delivered key regional fisheries and aquaculture priorities during the CROP session of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting plenary in Koror, Palau. Mr Pakop presented on behalf of FFA and SPC, relaying the outcomes of the 25th Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC) Ministers Meeting and 7th Regional Fisheries Ministers Meeting, held in Wellington in June this year. Key highlights of the presentation include: The Vakamanu Regional Pacific Fisheries Strategy 2026–2035, bringing offshore, coastal and aquaculture resources under one regional framework. The East New Britain Initiative, aimed at retaining more of the economic value generated by Pacific tuna within the region. The sustainable and biologically healthy status of the four major Pacific tuna stocks. The growing impacts of climate change on coastal fisheries and tuna distribution. Mr Pakop called on Leaders to maintain regional oversight of fisheries and aquaculture and support investment that reflects their strategic value to the Blue Pacific.
