Tampa Theatre is officially 100 years old! 🎬 On October 15, 2026, I returned to one of my favorite places in Tampa for the Tampa Theatre Centennial Celebration, exactly 100 years after this historic movie palace first opened its doors. In this video, I take you along for the entire celebration, from the crowds outside the iconic marquee to the festivities inside one of America’s most beautiful historic theaters. Tampa Theatre opened in 1926 and was designed by legendary theater architect John Eberson. Over the last century, it has survived changing times, a threat of demolition, major restoration projects, and generations of moviegoers who have kept this incredible building alive. Today it remains one of Tampa’s most treasured landmarks and one of the country’s best-preserved historic movie palaces. Tampa Theatre The Centennial Celebration included live music, swing dancing, historic presentations, the Tampa Theatre Mighty Wurlitzer organ, the 1924 Buster Keaton silent film Sherlock Jr., and a finale featuring Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, recreating a piece of the theatre’s original 1926 opening-night program. Tampa Theatre also means a lot to me personally. I’ve watched classic movies here, celebrated milestones here, spent Halloween nights here, watched Tampa Bay Rays baseball here with friends, and the Tampa Theatre marquee has even been part of the Tampa Jay channel for years. So celebrating its 100th anniversary was something I absolutely had to be here for. If you love classic movies, old movie theaters, historic architecture, Tampa history, Florida history, roadside Americana, or historic places, I think you’re really going to enjoy this one. Thanks for watching and helping celebrate 100 years of Tampa Theatre!
