An AI and I each composed a piece on the same theme — and a live audience at the Elbphilharmonie had to guess which one was written by a human. Along the way: how AI actually composes (and where it breaks), a summer of writing, and a nerve-wracking blind vote on stage.
I composed a chamber work.
At the same time, an AI generated a competing piece.
The audience at a real concert — connected to the Fanny Mendelssohn Förderpreis at the Elbphilharmonie — had to decide which piece was written by a human composer and which one by artificial intelligence.
This vlog documents the entire process:
composing, rehearsing, traveling, confronting doubt, and finally stepping onto the concert stage with a question that feels existential:
Can AI replace a composer?
This is not about clickbait.
It’s about artistic identity, fear, and the future of contemporary classical music.
Rehfeldt on the Road follows real projects from the inside — chamber music, composition, and the intersection between human creativity and technology.
If you’re interested in classical music, AI in music, creative process, or the future of art, you’re in the right place.
