Furgler Circuit Hike near Serfaus: 3-Day Hut-to-Hut Tour with Moderate Daily Stages
The Furgler Circuit near Serfaus in the Austrian Alps in Tyrol is a roughly 25-kilometer hut-to-hut hike in the Samnaun Group, particularly suitable for beginners, families, and leisurely hikers. It leads through three daily stages, stopping at three mountain huts, and is designed so that each section can be comfortably completed in about four to five hours.
The hike can be started at either the Kölner Haus or the Ascher Hütte, both of which are easily accessible by cable car, thus avoiding long ascents to the huts.
The route traverses diverse alpine landscapes with blooming mountain meadows, marmots, and a glacial lake. The trails are marked and easy to follow even for less experienced hikers, but require sure-footedness in some places, especially in scree fields and sections with fixed ropes (particularly between the Ascher Hütte and the Kölner Haus, between the Medrigjoch and Furglerjoch passes).
The first stage leads from the Kölner Haus to the Hexenseehütte at 2,588 meters altitude, passing over the Scheid and the Arrezjoch, among other routes. On the second day, the trail continues over the Masnerjoch to the Ascher Hütte, offering views of the surrounding Alps, particularly the Verwall range to the north. The third stage leads back to the Kölner Haus and includes the crossing of the Furglerjoch and the Furglersee.
For experienced mountain hikers, there are additional opportunities for summit ascents along the route, such as to the Furgler.
Overall, the Furgler circuit is characterized by its relatively short stages, easy accessibility, and diverse scenery.
Requirements: Exposed sections with fixed ropes; sure-footedness is essential. Note: This is an alpine tour. Rapid weather changes are possible. Sturdy hiking boots, as well as rain and sun protection, are essential.
