After 2 years with the Kuat IBEX truck bed rack, I’m changing my setup. For the past two years, I’ve been running the IBEX at full height on my GMC Sierra AT4. That configuration gave me plenty of room for gear, MOLLE panels, lighting and other accessories. More recently, I added a rooftop tent — and that got me thinking about one of the IBEX’s biggest advantages: the ability to change the height of the rack as your needs change. In this video, I take a look back at my experience with the Kuat IBEX after two years of real-world use, then convert the rack from its full-height configuration to mid height using the new mid-height MOLLE panels. And this isn’t just a before-and-after video. I show the entire configuration change in detail, including how the IBEX comes apart, how the height is changed, installation of the new panels, and finally reinstalling the rooftop tent on the new lower setup. The goal is to find out whether mid height makes more sense for my current use — particularly with a rooftop tent — while showing just how adaptable the IBEX can be. I’ve always felt that if you’re going to invest in good equipment, you should get as much use and versatility out of it as possible. After two years, that’s exactly what I’m trying to do with the IBEX.
